I recently purchased a car mount for my iPhone, something of which I had avoided for years. Car mounts had always reminded me of distracted, lost drivers more focused on their GPS/Phone than the road. But the time came when I was using my iPhone as a GPS/Entertainment device and keeping it in a slot in the dash just wasn't working and wasn't safe.
Ok, so let me explain a little bit. I love to play music/audiobooks in my car while using Waze, a navigation app, to get me from point A to B. The point of waze is to inform you of hazards on the road like an accident, downed tree, car stopped on the side of the road, or really bad construction that could slow down your trip. I found that while I was driving, I was constantly picking up my phone and looking at, then setting it down after I saw what I needed. This is not only unsafe, its down right stupid if you are going to use your iPhone at all as a GPS in your car.
So I set out to do a lot of research on a car mount, I looked at a few on Amazon and decided on the iOttie One-Touch Windshield Dashboard Car Mount. After about a week of use, I would not go back to my old system. I love having the ability to quickly glance over at the screen, get the information that I need while keeping my hands on the wheel and attention on the road. The key here is that my iPhone, with iOttie, became a minimal distraction instead of a huge distraction like in the past. Having my iPhone up on my dash with my GPS on, I am more likely to not touch my phone at all, which is a good thing if you are driving.
The main reason I bought this car mount was because I wanted a way to display my iPhone while driving without compromising on safety. If you have to even briefly look down at your phone, to do anything, that split second could be all it takes to change your life forever. Ok, off of my soapbox here, I really do love the iOttie Car Mount and recommend it to anyone that has a smartphone. This is a must have road trip accessory for sure.
