The famous Macotakara is that Apple is lining up suppliers for its next-gen MacBook Air to launch in the third quarter of this year.
According to the report from Macotakara, the next generation Macbook Air will not only receive internal spec bumps with intel's new Haswell platform, but will also under go some external changes as well. One of the rumored new features is the addition of a retina display for the next generation Macbook Air.
There are several reasons I have a hard time believing that Apple will add retina to the next generation Macbook Air. The first is that with the addition of a retina display, power consumption increases dramatically. With power consumption up, the next generation Macbook Air would need a bigger battery, and where would that come from? Apple isn't going to compromise their love for thinner devices for a bigger battery. I think we are still a year away from a retina on a Macbook Air.
Another reason I have a hard time believing that Apple is going to add retina display on the next generation Macbook Air is cost. While most of the cost of the Retina Macbook Pro is the solid state drive, which the Macbook Air has had for quite some time, the cost of adding Retina would add considerable cost to the production of the Macbook Air. Adding cost wouldn't be that big a deal on the Macbook Air in the past. But with Apple axing the Macbook in favor of making the Macbook Air the entry point for Portable Macs, I can't see Apple increasing that price.
So what do you think? Do you think that the next generation Macbook Air will have Retina? If the next generation Macbook Air does have Retina, will the price increase? Let us know in the Forums or on our Facebook page.
