Friday Fun: Google Chrome, Retirements, and Rumors

Google Chrome on the Macbook Air.
Well, the weekend is upon on and if you are on the east coast of the US, its a really hot day and looking like a hot weekend. So why dont you just crank the A/C and chill with us here at Guessing the Apple. Anyways, the biggest stories of the back half of the last week in June is full of Google (yes, Google), retirements, and some iOS rumors. Lets get this party started!

  1. Google, Google, Google. This past week, Google has been making an enormous out amount of news starting with Google Chrome causing Macbook Airs to run slow and sometimes crash due to kernal panic. According to Google, "We have identified a leak of graphics resources in the Chrome browser related to the drawing of plugins on Mac OS X. The resource leak is causing a kernel panic on Mac hardware containing the Intel HD 4000 graphics chip (e.g. the new Macbook Airs)." Thanks Google for really stepping up to the plate with some timely information about the issue. Unfortunately, if you have the lastest MBA, you might want to hold off on using Google Chrome. Try Safari or Firefox for the mean time.
  2. Second Google news story of the week was far more positive than the first story. Finally, after a long time of rumors and predictions, Google has released Chrome for iOS on all iOS Devices adding synced bookmarks and tabs through your Google account. So far I love it, i'd give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars and thats the rating on the iOS app store. Does Chrome do anything ground breaking? No, but its a very good start to another web browser alternative like a few others on the iOS App Store.
  3. Oh the retirements, cue the stupid Apple morons that claim Apple is doomed to making iToys because another top man is retiring. Senior VP of Hardware Engineering Bob Mansfield is stepping down from his position at Apple. He has played a key role in leading the development of the Macintosh, iPhone/iPod, and iPad hardware at Apple since 2005. After 13 years at Apple, Bob is calling it quits for a career for the time being. Honestly, I dont blame him at all. His job was stressful, demanding, and high scrutinized. He made millions doing what he did best and making Apple one of the greatest companies right now. Enjoy life man, take it easy and hope to see you somewhere again at some point.
  4. Last on the list is a small segment, something I really shouldnt have to even talk about but here it is, Macgasm is reporting they received an email from an "inside source" (honestly, that is one word used to much now) claiming a smaller version of the iPad is coming out along side the iPhone 5 in August. Really now? Really? So Apple is going to make an iPad cheaper than an iPod in many cases and release an iPhone 2 months before iOS 6 is ready. Are you serious? Stop, stop it right now.

So what do you people think about what is going on in the world of Apple? Is Google Chrome something you use? Are you going to miss Bob Mansfield? Is Apple losing to many top execs now to stay viable for the long term? What do you think about the rumors of more iOS Devices?
