No iPhone 5, Yet Still Impressed and More!

Well to start off with, this was an extremely hyped press conference. Hyped to a level I personally couldnt have imagined in my wildest dreams. What we witnessed was something odd, interesting, heartbreaking, and uplifting in an exciting way. Really, I was reading the blogs of the press conference and refreshing as fast as I could only to find myself more and more frustrated with the wait, the rehash of the WWDC, and then the eventual release of JUST the iPhone 4S. But looking back, this was more than just that. This press conference delivered on more than just a few levels. It delivered everything I could have wanted and so much more. Here is what I loved and thought was great and worth noting.

  1. IOS 5 is where I am going to start. Well the lastest IOS is due on the 12th of October. With it, several things arrive with it as well. Obviously iCloud is one of those amazing things that will debut with IOS 5 and many already knew this. But what about new features yet to be announced? Well lets start small first and work our way up the food chain here. First is Cards, this app is an app where you can make greetings cards, birthday cards, you name it, this app has it, think of Halmark, but in app form. You design your card and send it to Apple through the app and then they make it all up and send it to the person of your choice, notifying you when the person gets the card, which is pretty really cool. Another cool new app is Friend Finder, sorta like Find My Mac or iPad, but here, the app allows you to share your location among contacts and friends. Fear not parents, there is a parental control section to avoid those creepy stalkers. And finally, the mother of all things. Siri, which is an intelligence voice assistant that allows you to do many tasks on your iDevice all with your voice. This is what most of us were clamoring for and wondering if it would show up or not and well, it did and looks like Apple delivered.
  2. The new iPhone 4S. This baby is a completely redesigned underneath the hood.By this I mean, this thing is crazy awesome. The new iPhone has a dual core processor, dual core graphics, which are clocked to be 7 times faster than the iPhone 4. Plus, a redesigned antenna. Seriously, do I need to explain why this is awesome?? Hahaha, oh antennagate. But yeahthis redesigned antenna is designed to bring 4G speeds without the 4G negatives of bad battery life with speeds of 14.4 megabytes download on the iPhone 4S versus the 7.2 megabytes download on the iPhone 4 all running on 3G, yet comparable to 4G phones of HTC and LG running on 4G. The speeds are awesome, but the camera is just as cool. Both the camera and video recording have both been drastically upgraded with the camera having a 8 megapixel camera, hybrid IR filter, better color, accuracy, and more color uniformity with the video recording now capturing in 1080p instead of 720p which is what the iPhone 4 captures. And the iPhone 4S is a world phone with GSM and CDMA built on board. Many carriers, one phone, which is great, and this does include Sprint as well!!!! As for T-Mobile, I am not really sure. Oh and prices, the 3GS is now free with a 2 year contract, the iPhone 4, is now just 8 gigs but $99 dollars, also a 2 year contract required. For the new iPhone 4S, most is the usual, black and white, 16 gigs=$199 and 32 gigs=$299, but something new has joined the party and that is a 64 gig iPhone 4S for $399. Finally a 64 gig iPhone, something a lot of people have been wanting for several years.
  3. Finally, the iPod. Only a few noteworthy items stemmed from this segment, but some cool things really. Now the iPod touch is available in white with the iPod touch 4th generation model just $199 dollars, down from $229. Also the iPod nano now has 16 new digital clock faces that turn the nao into an iPod Watch which I think is a pretty great idea. Also on a side note, there was nothing for the old timer iPod Classic which has attracted headlines for being on the chopping block at Apple.
So to recap, IOS 5 debuts on October 12th with all of its known features and new ones as well such as Cards and Friend Finder. Also there is no iPhone 5, but the iPhone 4S is pretty darn awesome and completely redesigned under the hood making it one of the largest leaps from iPhone to iPhone in my humble opinion. You can pre order this baby up on the October 7th and pick up the new iPhone 4S on October 14th at the usual places of Best Buy, Radioshack, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and other places as well. All in all, I came away with more than I thought I would and more happy than I anticipated even without the fact there was no iPhone 5, which was rumored to come out.
